Rob Salkowitz in Internet Evolution: Clicking Down Dotcom Memory Lane

“Registering an Internet domain in the mid-1980s looks like a smart move today, but one has to wonder what those early-adopters were really thinking. There was no HTML, no Web, no browsers, and certainly no e-commerce. PCs were mostly business appliances or luxury items for well-heeled nerds. Could anyone foresee, even dimly, that a branded Internet domain would be a requirement of doing business someday?”

And which of today’s seemingly low-priority ideas will be a requirement of doing business tomorrow?
